Best Things to Do in Big Bear Lake, California: [Save this reel for your next visit!] Big Bear is a popular destination for skiing and snowboarding in the winter, but there’s also plenty more to do here year-round! Here’s a quick guide for some of the best things to do in BB: HIKING
There’s no shortage of hiking options around Big Bear Lake! Some of the most popular trails are:
- Castle Rock Trail (pictured)
- Pine Knot Trail
- Woodland Trail
- Cougar Crest Trail BIKE ALONG ALPINE PEDAL PATH
Rent bikes and spend the afternoon peddling along the lake on the Alpine Pedal Path! The trail is paved and stretches for 3 miles, and also passes by the Big Bear Solar Observatory and the Big Bear Discovery Center. RIDE DOWN THE ALPINE SLIDE - @alpineslidebigbear
Big Bear’s Alpine Slide at Magic Mountain is a cross between an outdoor slide and a rollercoaster! Riders take a ski lift to the top and get to control the speed going down, and a single ride only costs $9.
There’s also a variety of other attractions here, including the Soaring Eagle (which is similar to zip lining except you’re sitting in a chair), and the Mine Shaft Coaster, which more closely resembles a rollercoaster. HAVE A PICNIC AT BOULDER BAY PARK
Boulder Bay Park is well-maintained and has beautiful views of the mountains right along the lake. Spend an afternoon here having a picnic, or get out on the water for boating, kayaking or canoeing. If you had asked me around this time last year if I would ever consider solo road trips, hiking & car camping, the answer would have probably been no. Before the pandemic my solo travels consisted of hopping on a plane and staying in hotels/hostels/Airbnbs, always surrounded by other humans, and connected to wifi. But this past year really pushed me to step further out of my comfort zone and try a whole new level of solo traveling. I’ve been on a road trip kick ever since and plan on exploring more national parks and adventuring through California. Still warming up to the solo hiking & car camping part, but I’m always down for an adventure. And wherever I end up you already know you’re all coming along for the ride 😉🚙 To all the new faces here - Welcome! ⚲ McWay Falls | Big Sur, California 🌊✨ McWay Falls is a unique and rare waterfall that flows directly onto the beach - one of the only 2 in California! Here’s what you need to know for visiting this iconic spot in Big Sur [SAVE THIS POST FOR LATER]: - McWay Falls is located in Pfeiffer Burns State Park. Parking at the trailhead is limited and costs $10. - From the parking lot it’s a quick and easy 10 minute hike to the falls. (It’s more of a stroll than a hike.) - We visited during the day on our drive back home from Big Sur, but if you can I recommend going for the sunrise or sunset! - As of our visit, this trail is closed at the halfway point due to erosion. But still leads you to this ↟ beautiful view of the falls. (This photo was taken right at the gate blocking the rest of the trail.)
